📘 OVERVIEW
Hit & Hold is our new competitive Pokémon pack-opening game show, it is played in two rounds between two contestants: the Ripper and the Officer. Players take turns opening packs to find hits, compete in challenges to keep or steal them, and use Power Cards and audience involvement to shift the tide of the game.
Every round ends in tension. Every pack could change everything.
🎭 ROLES
🟢 The Ripper
- Opens packs until they pull a Hit.
- Must win a challenge to keep the Hit — or risk losing it to the Officer.
🔵 The Officer
- Watches the Ripper’s pull.
- Selects the challenge category the Ripper must face.
- Can play Mini Power Cards during the Ripper's turn.
- May choose to offer a consolation pack if the Ripper fails All or Nothing.
If given freely, the Officer receives a bonus from the giveaway binder.
🧠 WHAT COUNTS AS A "HIT"?
Any card above a standard rare holo (e.g., full art, ex, V, alt art, gold, etc.) is considered a Hit, regardless of value.
🔁 GAME STRUCTURE
- Two contestants are selected through a trivia challenge.
- A coin flip determines who starts as Ripper vs Officer.
- The game is played in 2 rounds, with roles switching between rounds.
- A Final Sudden Death Round is played if any Hits are lost — or even if none were lost, to win a random giveaway card.
📦 PACK PHASE
- Ripper opens packs until a Hit is pulled.
- No limit to number of packs — must hit to continue.
- If a double-hit is pulled in one pack, both are at risk and subject to the challenge.
🔥 CHALLENGE PHASE
- The Officer picks a category:
- 🎯 Skill
- 🎲 Luck
- 🧠 Strategy
- 😂 Humor
- ❓ Random
- Both players face off in a challenge.
- If the Ripper wins he Keeps the card.
- If the Ripper loses, contestants enter the Steal Phase:
- Officer must win the challenge to steal the card.
- If Officer loses this challenge, the card is forfeited and goes to Sudden Death.
🎮 BOSS HIT RULE
If a pulled card has a market value of $25 or more, it becomes a Boss Hit.
- Boss Hits follow a Best-of Challenge Format, depending on value:
Value Range | Level | Challenge Format |
$25–$49 | Level 1 | Best of 3 |
$50–$74 | Level 2 | Best of 5 |
$75–$99 | Level 3 | Best of 7 |
+$25 per tier | +1 Level | +2 Challenges |
- If the Ripper wins the Best-of challenge: Keeps the card.
- If the Ripper loses, the Officer enters the Steal Phase:
- Officer must win a single challenge to steal the Boss Hit.
- If Officer loses this challenge, the card is forfeited and goes to Sudden Death.
🎰 ALL OR NOTHING MODE
- After winning a Hit, the Ripper may declare All or Nothing:
- They open two more packs to try for another Hit.
- If no Hit is found, all cards from the round are forfeited.
- If a non-Boss Hit is found, the Ripper keeps it without a challenge.
- If a Boss Hit is found, Boss Hit rules apply.
💥 If All or Nothing fails, forfeited cards are placed into Sudden Death.
⚡ POWER CARDS
🔋 Power Phase
- At the start of each round, players compete to earn a Power Card by answering trivia or completing a challenge.
- If both players fail, no Power Cards are earned.
🃏 Power Card Rules
- Cards are shuffled into a deck and distributed randomly.
- Power Cards may be played after the challenge is revealed, but only once per round per player.
- If a Power Card is not played in Round 1, it may be saved for Round 2.
- Once played, Power Cards are discarded.
🧪 Power Card Type Effectiveness
Power Type | Beats | Loses to | Ties with → Both Cards Cancel |
Strategy | Luck | Humor | Strategy vs Strategy |
Luck | Humor | Strategy | Luck vs Luck |
Humor | Strategy | Luck | Humor vs Humor |
Only the stronger type takes effect, and the weaker card is canceled.
👮 MINI OFFICER POWER CARDS
- May be played during the Ripper’s pack phase.
- Only one Mini Officer Card may be played per round.
- Once played, it cannot be reused.
🪄 Examples:
- “Force the Ripper to switch to a new unopened pack.”
- “Swap roles immediately.”
- “Skip one of the Ripper’s Power Cards.”
👥 AUDIENCE POWER CARDS
- One audience member draws an Audience Power Card at the start of the game.
- May be played at any time, except:
- ❌ Not allowed during Boss Hit phases (from reveal to end of challenge).
- ⚠️ Must make logical sense (e.g., Role Swap can’t be used during Sudden Death).
⚔️ SUDDEN DEATH RULES
- If a Hit is lost due to a failed challenge or failed All or Nothing, it is placed in the Sudden Death Pool.
- At the end of both rounds, the players face off in a Final Sudden Death Round for all forfeited cards.
🎁 If no hits were lost, players still compete for a giveaway prize from the mystery box.
